Our Story

Building Bridges for Change (BB4C) is a Women-Led National NGO legally registered by the South Sudan Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) as national Non-Profit, Non- Government
Humanitarian Organization and holds a certificate with registration number 5505.

In 2024, a group of educated, dynamic and like-minded women and Youth working in the humanitarian sector got quite concerned of the deteriorating humanitarian condition and zero development in most parts of South Sudan.

As a result, they came together and they agreed to establish an organization to address the most urgent and pressing needs of South Sudanese women and youth and to foster partnerships with like-minded partners for the development of South Sudan, focusing mainly on Women and Youth empowerment, food security and livelihoods, primary healthcare, nutrition, WASH, peace building and education. 

After few months of volunteer work in the community, the organization realized that the living conditions of a significant part of the South Sudan population have improved, but the marginalized communities especially women living in the rural and hard to reach areas of South Sudan are still living in poor humanitarian conditions, have no access to resources, are highly exposed to the risk of GBV in their daily routines, and girls still have no access to education. 

This led to a shift in focus with more emphasis on development. Transitioning humanitarian aid into sustainable development interventions has since been the driving force behind BB4C. We not only provide help to the communities but we make them part of the solution, and aim to help them to help themselves. Sustainability is a key aspect of all that we do at BB4C.

BB4C adopts a participatory and adaptive approach in responding to the needs of the people it serves. We works with local people who best understand the needs of the population it targets and those that are better positioned to empower women. BB4C’s target population is vulnerable and marginalized women in the rural areas of South Sudan and therefore works with women, women- led CBOs and women groups to identify the most vulnerable and marginalized and empower them. 

As a women-led organization, our approach is women and Youth centered aiming to create a society
where women and girls are empowered to live life to full potential and free of violence and intimidation. To secure the environment in which women and girls realize their full potential, BB4C contributes to strengthening governance structures and institutions while challenging societal attitudes and masculinities that lead to gender stereotyping.

BB4C believes that everyone in the society has the right to good living conditions regardless their gender, age, race, religion and displacement status among other factors. We believe that no one should be invisible or marginalized as we find our way to holistic nation development: we believe that everyone has something to contribute towards the country’s development agenda, which is why we are reaching out to the marginalized women to help them understand their rights, regain their voice, and meaningfully contribute to the country’s development agenda. We believe that empowering women is creating the future we desire.
