Education and Empowerment

Opening Doors to Opportunity: Education and Empowerment for Children in South Sudan

Education in South Sudan remains an urgent priority with just 27 per cent of the population having the ability to read or write, and less than half of children enrolled in school.

BB4C supports Education in Emergencies; construction of classrooms, temporary learning spaces, and WASH facilities including latrines and boreholes in schools; advocates for girl child education; supports centers for Early Childhood Development; and trains teachers, Parents Teachers Associations, Social Advocacy Teams and Local Education Authorities, including head teachers, inspectors and supervisors.

Our Education in Emergencies program supports children affected by insecurity and natural disasters by providing child friendly learning spaces, providing teaching materials and learning kits, and working with communities to ensure children’s education is not disrupted.

We also run child resilience programs that improve the psychosocial wellbeing of children affected by conflict using a combination of art, photography, physical activity, PSS and group sessions.

BB4C has been at the forefront of efforts to improve education in South Sudan (both formal and informal) through establishing learning spaces (permanent and temporary) and providing furniture and teaching and learning materials to the established schools. Our primary objective in education is to improve access to inclusive education by all children.
